Love, loss and redemption. The physical and emotional return to the grandparents’ house inspires the latest collection of poems by Adriana Bañares from La Rioja, ‘Vacaciones’, published by the Sevillian publishing house Maclein y Parker, which she presents this Thursday at La Casa del Libro in Logroño (at 7:30 p.m. ) accompanied by the writer Carmela Trujillo.
The author reflects on the beauty and melancholy found in childhood memories and the loss of loved ones. From the beaches to the vast expanses of the sea, each poem reflects the elusive nature of language, which, at the same time as it is created, is also unraveled and fragmented.
“It’s the first time I’ve been alone in my grandmother’s house since she died, fifteen years ago,” says the author of ‘Urbe capensis’ (2022) and ‘Recaya’ (2019), among others. «In reality – she adds –, I am not alone, I am with my son. “I learn to talk to my son, I get to know the town of my childhood with him again, I meet again with a place where I always felt like a stranger, and with the whole idea of freedom and fear of death that has haunted me since then.”
