Carlos Pinedo, mayor of Santa Marta, held a security council after the demonstration that occurred on the Caribe Trunk, the president stated that some groups infiltrated the protest, forcing the owners of commercial premises to close their doors.

“In the Caribbean Trunk, there is a social protest that is infiltrated by some bandits, that is the reality of the matter, obviously we as a district government guarantee the constitutional right of the good citizen who is going out to protest, it is essential to guarantee the human rights in that social protest”stated Carlos Pinedo, mayor of Santa Marta.

The first president of the city continued saying that, “We have initiated actions before the national government, which is in the end the great concern that a large part of that region of the city has, what is the great concern, the issue of Total Peace, which has been spoken of on countless occasions by the President of the Republic, it is no secret to anyone that dialogues began here that are currently frozen, that we are going to make us go to the office of the Peace Commissioner to manage that these dialogues are resumed.”

“We will never give up on dialogue and definitive peace in our territory, which is also the policy of the national government and the guidelines come from them so that confusion does not arise.”expressed Carlos Pinedo.

“We are prepared to restore public order in the area, the administration is prepared for that, but first we are going to exhaust the avenue of dialogue, which is the most important for us,” stated the Mayor.

“According to military and police intelligence, there are some bandits who have taken advantage of the protest to demand that businesses close, to misinform public opinion and create confusion among citizens on many occasions regarding things that are not happening, the more information that is coming out in the streets, these are things that are not happening”, Pinedo said at the press conference.

The president assured that the bandits are using social networks to misinform and create anxiety among the inhabitants of Santa Marta.

“We as the District Administration have supported the protest, guaranteeing the right of good citizens, but we are not going to allow acts of vandalism to be carried out and the blocking of the road is something that we are not going to allow because it affects all the citizens. “Samarios and the entire region, since that is a central corridor for the development of the entire Caribbean,” stated Carlos Pinedo.

The meeting, which included the participation of the high advisor for peace and the National Police, took place after a series of demonstrations in the rural area of ​​Santa Marta, where the inhabitants expressed their discontent with the National Government for not starting dialogues with groups outside the law.

The march, which passed without incident from Mendihuaca to the entrance of Tayrona Park, has led the district administration to seek peaceful solutions.
