The Minister of Water and Energy, Adolfo Scaglioni, spoke with El Independiente Media and referred to the water crisis that the world is experiencing, from which the Province is not exempt. He indicated that the natural characteristics of the province, the lack of rain and the economic costs aggravate the water situation in the province, becoming even more accentuated in the interior of Rioja; For this reason, he called for awareness about taking care of him.
Firstly, Scaglioni highlighted this note by maintaining that these help a lot for people to understand the seriousness of this water situation “it helps us a lot for people to understand that this is not a particular crisis, exclusive to our province, it is global, but to us It affects us even more due to the characteristics that La Rioja has, a province that has more water deficiency, without having permanent water courses like the majority of the provinces in Argentina have, apart from being electrodependent,” he said.
In this sense, the work being carried out “has to do with a concern of the Governor, knowing the conditions of our province, that the smallest number of people possible suffer from the lack of the vital element. For this reason, we are working tirelessly throughout the province, with actions in the southern province, which is the most affected place, fundamentally, Chepes, Patquía, Milagro. We have begun piping work in one of the boreholes that we are going to put into service over the course of these days,” indicated the Minister of Water and Energy.
He pointed out that “work is being carried out within the possibilities that our budget allows and working together with the Chief of Staff, and making people understand that 900 liters per person per day cannot be consumed, that is outrageous. We are going to begin to carry out this type of dissemination, we have to begin to understand that this problem belongs to everyone, and together we have to solve it. Drinking water in La Rioja costs a fortune, because we have to bring it from boreholes that are 300 meters deep, with the energy cost that this implies, today energy has increased inconsiderately.”
Snowological station will evaluate the contribution of meltwater
Last weekend, a snowological type station was installed in the Famatina mountain range of La Rioja, at more than 4,300 meters above sea level, which allows measuring the amount of snow that has fallen at high altitudes. These data will be used to evaluate the contribution of water that will be released towards the Antinaco – Los Colorados valley as a result of the natural action of thaw; Regarding this, Scaglioni specified “this is an effort that we had been doing with the Governor and we managed to get this project approved by the Nation and we managed to install it. This has a lot to do with knowing through the snow what the recharge we will have in underground layers will be, this information is vitally important.”
“We are going to know for sure with the snowfall we will have this winter, what capacity our underground water tables have had and how we will fare.”
