The SMN reported that there will be an orange alert for the southern province and a yellow alert in the Capital. Temperatures of up to 30 degrees in some areas and a weekend with mild weather are expected. The cold will only return on Wednesday.
The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a yellow and orange zone wind alert for some provinces, including La Rioja.
Sergio Morán, meteorologist and head of the La Rioja Station of the SMN, spoke with Riojavirtual Radio and provided details about this zonda weather that is expected for this Thursday and Friday.
«Orange alert is in effect for Chilecito, Famatina, Ángel Vicente Peñaloza, Independnecia, San Blas de los Sauces and the lower area of Coronel Felipe Varela, General Lamadrid and Vinchina. It is a zone wind alert that will have speeds of between 40 and 70 kilometers per hour and with gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour,” he said.
Morán added that the yellow zone alert reaches the departments of Arauco, Capital, Sanagasta and Castro Barros and that in this case winds of between 35 and 50 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour are expected.
The meteorologist said that, in the Capital, the winds are expected this Thursday afternoon.
In addition, he highlighted that both the yellow and orange alerts are in effect until early this Friday. «On Saturday and Sunday the temperatures will drop but not as much. We are going to have cool mornings, with minimums of 10 degrees and maximums of 22. Only on Wednesday is a drop in temperature expected and with maximums of 19 degrees,” he added.
Regarding the temperatures this winter will have, Morán reported that the records will be similar to those of previous years for that season and that they could even be “a little higher.”
