Next Monday, June 17, this new phase will be made official, in which citizens and businessmen will learn in detail how they can contribute to this cause that seeks to overcome the obstacles encountered so that the national government can allocate the necessary resources to complete these important road infrastructure projects.

The relaunch of the “cow” now focuses on reach the participation of one million peopleexpanding the forms of contribution beyond monetary donations.

The goal of raising one billion pesos has been adjusted, recognizing the difficulty of reaching such a figure solely with financial contributions. It is intended that people from all over Colombia, not just Antioquia, can contribute in various ways, since these avenues benefit multiple regions of the country, as has been highlighted on several occasions. President Gustavo Petro.

In recent days, the governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón, appointed former councilor Alfredo Ramos as ad honorem manager of the initiative, leading this new stage without remuneration.

In conversation with this medium, Ramos emphasized the importance of appealing to national solidarity: “We want to take the cow to other regions, not just stay with the regionalist Antioquia issue. There is a benefit here for all Colombians and that is one of the most important points,” he stated.

Since the launch of the “cow” in March, approximately 15,000 people have donated around $5.5 billion, representing only 0.55% of the initial goal. Given the need to revitalize the initiative, on June 17 the relaunch will take place in at least 30 public points in Medellín, extending the donation methodologies beyond virtual platforms.

The new strategy will include placing piggy banks in public areas, selling products donated by companies or individuals, private events such as dinners or bingo halls, and large city events, including concerts and sports races. In addition, those who wish to contribute as volunteers in carrying out these events may also do so, donating their time and effort.

To encourage participation, pedagogy will be expanded on the benefits of the completion of the Toyo Tunnel, not only for Antioquia, but for the entire country. This includes aspects such as savings in costs, time and logistical improvements for industry and agriculture.

“We prefer many people donating small amounts than one large donor giving a lot of money. We really want to show them an idea of fraternity and solidarity that we haven’t seen in a long time,” Ramos stressed.

Additionally, Ramos mentioned that members of the board of the “cow” have had approaches with sectors of the Coffee Axis to add their support. The initiative has strong legal protection to ensure the legality and rectitude of all donations, guaranteeing the complete confidentiality of the names of the contributors.

On the other hand, next Wednesday, June 19 at 9:00 am, a hearing will be held in the process of loss of investiture faced by 10 congressmen who supported the “cow”, accused by lawyer Carlos Mario Patiño of having violated the disqualification regime by contributing resources to the collection. It will be the Council of State who decides on this matter.

The closing date of the “vaca” has been proposed for August 31 of this year, with the repeated call to the national government that if it cannot deliver the necessary resources to complete the works of the Toyo Tunnel, allow the department manage them to move forward as soon as possible and fulfill the dream of improving connectivity to the sea.
