In February 2023, the former mayor of Capital, Emilio Baistrocchi, announced the repaving works on Córdoba Avenue, from Rawson Avenue to Las Heras Street. However, after the electoral defeat, the works were paralyzed with the intention of not compromising the budget of the incoming administration. HUARPE DIARY spoke with César Aguilar, coordinator of the Cabinet of the municipality of Capital, who mentioned that in 30 days the provincial government could lift the neutralization to begin work on that artery.

It is worth mentioning that in the first stage of work on Córdoba Avenue, deformed and cracked slabs were replaced with new concrete slabs with prior base reconditioning. This work had a prior agreement between the municipality of Capital and the Government of San Juan that implied 100% total coverage of the work.

“We are trying to at least pave from Rawson to Rioja, although the project extends to Las Heras,” Aguilar commented.

Córdoba Avenue is key for the passability of users traveling to health centers, schools or shopping centers. In addition, a Tulum Network station is located, which made it an even busier route for public passenger transportation services.

It is important to highlight that Capital aims at a comprehensive paving plan in which work has already been included in areas such as: Sargento Cabral, from Paula Albarracín de Sarmiento street to Salta street; Hermógenes Ruiz street, Franklin Rawson, 9 de Julio, among other streets.

Cost

Although the authorities preferred not to talk about amounts, since it would be too hasty, it is worth remembering that in 2023, the previous administration had announced that the total cost of the investment for the paving works of three central arteries of the department (Libertador, Ignacio de la Roza and Córdoba) would be around $550 million.
