The Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso is monitoring the state of the infrastructure on its various campuses, as a result of the bad weather front that arrived this week in the Valparaíso region and that has impacted various communities, which has been manifested through of strong winds and a large amount of rain that falls in a few hours.

According to the information provided by the director of Infrastructure and Campus Management, Enrique Escobar, the PUCV has coped well with this climatic phenomenon and so far no damage has been reported in the Institution’s buildings, except for some minor events that occur due to the enormous amount of water that has been felt in the area.

“As a result of the weather forecasts that we previously analyzed, we began preparation work considering that two intense days of rain and wind were coming, which consisted of cleaning ducts, reviewing seals on windows and doors, along with checking the ducts. rainwater and others. In addition, we organized a series of shifts with those in charge of managing the campus of each headquarters, which were carried out in conjunction with the Projects Department and the Maintenance Unit,” he said.

The director also indicated that the University has offices in different communities and in this regard, a series of shifts with service personnel were available for Thursday, June 13 and Friday, June 14. Although the University suspended in-person academic and administrative activities on its different campuses, considering the emergency context, some maintenance tasks continue to be carried out in person to keep the campuses in optimal conditions.

“As there are effects in the different headquarters, shifts of assistants were assigned ready to carry out work in case we had problems with the water. As an intermediate measure, two shifts were set up: one on Thursday and another on Friday. With a team of professionals from the Infrastructure Directorate, we are also attentive to particular situations to prevent any emergency,” he noted.

The University is operating with two shifts and a total of 70 people from the Services Unit, 22 security guards and 20 professionals and technicians, who, true to their commitment to the Institution, are carrying out in-person work on the different PUCV campuses.

Escobar also recalled that the Directorate of Infrastructure and Campus Management will continue with a constant presence in the coming days in all the University’s headquarters, where architects, engineers and technical personnel, as well as supervisors and assistants from the PUCV, are also working.
