Although he acknowledged that the homicide rates in Atlántico are not as alarming as in other regions of the country, such as Arauca, the governor of Atlántico, Eduardo Verano, expressed his concern about the security situation in the region.

In this sense, the president highlighted the urgent need to fight against the extortion that afflicts citizens. “We have to fight to have greater control of all the difficulties we have at the moment. We have a lot of extortion, we are not victims of alarming figures in terms of murders, it is not as serious as what we have just heard from Arauca, for example,” said Governor Verano.

The president expressed his intention to work hand in hand with the National Police to combat this scourge that affects the tranquility and development of economic activities in the department.

Extortion has become one of the main concerns for the inhabitants of the Atlantic, who are forced to pay sums of money under threats from criminal groups.
