Violence in Cuba continues to increase, with a recent incident in which a man of approximately 60 years old was murdered in the town of Dos Caminos, municipality of San Luis, in Santiago de Cuba. This case highlights the alarming situation of insecurity that exists on the island.

According to the publication of journalist Yosmany Malleta Labrada, several reports agree that the victim was brutally attacked in the area known as “New World.” A local source described the horrific crime: “They gagged him and stabbed him three times in the head and neck. But he didn’t die from that, but because they put a stone in his mouth and he suffocated.” The victim worked as a custodian at a local cooperative.

Before being murdered, the man had mentioned that they had previously tried to rob him and that he knew the identity of the thief, although he had not reported him, preferring to resolve the matter on his own. On this occasion, thieves attempted to steal a mule, resulting in his tragic murder.

This incident joins a growing wave of crime in Cuba, where violent crimes appear to be increasingly frequent. The community is shocked and authorities have arrested several people in connection with the murder. One of the suspects reportedly lived near the cooperative, but managed to flee when sniffer dogs scented him.

This tragic event underscores the urgent need to address insecurity and crime in Cuba, as citizens feel increasingly vulnerable to violence and crime.
