Logroño (EFE).- The Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Qualified Origin (DOCa) Rioja has described the 2023 harvest as ‘Very Good’, after “an exhaustive and rigorous analysis process of 3,531 samples”, which has been analyzed by a Panel of Tasting of this organization, made up of 150 professionals.

This was announced this Friday by the Council, in a note, after the plenary session, whose representatives have ratified this qualification.

In the plenary session, an assessment of the harvest was also made, where the wines from the 2023 vintage stand out for having a good point of structure and pH, and providing sensations of liveliness and freshness greater than usual, which makes them more fluid, with a good weight in the mouth and with a finish where the sensations of softness and roundness stand out.

The report prepared by the Technical Services of the Regulatory Council of the DOCa points to the great relevance that the selection of grapes that has been made in the winery has had, which arouses curiosity about the evolution that these wines will have in their aging and aging. .

A heroism of the winemaker

Given the good maturation balance achieved and the aromatic definition that they announce at this time, they are wines that “invite optimism.”

As reflected by the director of the Council’s Control body, Pablo Franco, in his report, “the wines are a heroic act by the winemaker, given the complex climatic situations and the diversity of grapes received in the winery, where a great selection has had to be made. in order to conduct an elaboration that seemed capricious.”

In terms of colour, the red wines stand out for their heterogeneity and different ranges are observed, ranging from dried or ripe fruit from the first harvests before the rains of Rioja Oriental, to wines with greater character of fresh fruit from the most high.
