The Government of President Gustavo Petro, through the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, allocated resources of 513 billion pesos to the State Social Enterprises (ESE), which will bring primary care from doctors, nurses and psychologists to every corner from Colombia.

The resources will be dedicated to strengthening primary health care in 26 departments and capital cities.

It involves financing, forming and operating basic health teams, a measure adopted through resolutions 865, 1032, 1033 and 1034 of 2024.

The benefited departments and districts are: Antioquia, Arauca, Meta, Vichada, Nariño, Caldas, Cundinamarca, Valle del Cauca, Cauca, Tolima, Nariño, Casanare, Norte de Santander, Santander, Magdalena, Cesar, Bolívar, Quindío, Caquetá, Risaralda , Boyacá, La Guajira and the Districts of Santa Marta, San Andrés, Santiago de Cali and Buenaventura.

This is how it will turn

The resources will be directed to each of the ESCOs and they will hire human talent organized into teams.

These multidisciplinary teams will have to be motivated, sufficient and qualified, in response to the barriers identified in the operation of the General Social Security Health System.

The Ministry of Health indicated that the Government of Change “seeks to move towards a health system with responsiveness to address and ensure health care for individuals, families and communities, under a differential, population and territorial approach.”

To all corners

The basic health teams are made up of nursing assistants and professionals, doctors, psychologists and others, who will reach every corner of the country, guaranteeing the right to health of Colombians, through actions of health promotion, prevention of the disease and interventions that respond to the health needs of the most remote communities in the country.
