The Cali Sports and Recreation Secretariat is also working on the internationalization of its offer. Recently, it signed a document of sporting and recreational interest with the Costa Rican Institute of Sports and Recreation (Icoder), which allows them to work hand in hand to carry out joint activities for the benefit of the two institutions.

What is planned is that the Minister of Sports of that country, Royner Mora Ruiz, and the director of Icoder, Donald Rojas Fernández, will visit Cali to seal the signing of the memorandum, as well as analyze and explore important issues in the that both countries can benefit, review strategies, programs and plans that are successfully carried out in Cali and can be replicated in Costa Rica.

Likewise, the Cali delegation was in Cantón de Belén, a municipality that has a sports space that brings together high performance, older adults and the population in general, which they carried out with their own resources. In addition, they listened to the successful experiences in Cali, including Ciclovida and the commitment to the 11 programs of the recreational and sports offer.

The signing of the agreement is executed in the objective of the District Mayor’s Office and the Secretariat of Sports and Recreation to impact goals outlined in the Development Plan, and to involve the different programs of the organization.

Felipe Montoya, Secretary of Sports and Recreation of Cali, stated that “we were in Costa Rica visiting the Ministry of Sports of that country, and the Icoder, which is the governing entity of sports there, learning about their scenarios, their practices in sports promotion. and also sharing what we have been doing in Santiago de Cali.”

He added that “in that order of ideas we signed a framework cooperation agreement, with which we intend to exchange knowledge, so that our athletes can eventually take advantage of the sports infrastructure of Costa Rica and that Costa Rican athletes can also come and hold concentrations in different disciplines in Santiago de Cali. I think it is very beneficial for the city, for the region, for the country, and to be able to establish this type of brotherhood relations with neighboring countries and thus we will continue working to improve the conditions of our athletes and also to give a hand to the countries that surround us and from which we also have a lot to learn.”

The head of the Office added that a date will soon be defined for the visit of the Costa Rican leaders: “We are working on that, they come from the management order to also understand how it is managed from the management and management part of the sport in Colombia and in Cali specifically. “Athletes and technicians will come, we will share, we will also create virtual spaces and the idea is to continue strengthening those ties of brotherhood with Costa Rica.”

Support activities will occur in the following aspects: Training of athletes, sports teams and delegations, sports sciences, women and sports, fight against doping, sports for people with disabilities, sports administration, hosting and organizing competitions or events international sports, school sports and recreation, and other areas that the two entities consider necessary.
