Quimsa recovered, achieved a victory and was on match point
Quimsa did it once again. At the Islas Malvinas Sports Center, the Fusion defeated Peñarol in the third game of the La Liga quarterfinals. It was 83-75, taking a new big step in the series to go 2 to 1 up and remain on match point, just one win away from reaching the semifinals.
The “Fusión” relied on the difference in the first half (49 – 29) to win a pivotal match in the series against Peñarol by 83/75 and advance 2 – 1 in the quarterfinals. Juan Ignacio Brussino stood out with 17 points and 7 assists, on Saturday the crossing will continue from 9 p.m. in Mar del Plata.
At the beginning Quimsa made better decisions in attack with Robinson and Gallizzi, in three minutes a double by Simpson was the only thing for the local team. After an ineffective passage in both rings, Thornton equalized the score, but the segment was in the hands of Quimsa by 15 to 11 thanks to a good entry from the bench with Vasirani and Sansimoni.
In the second quarter Basabe and Acevedo widened the gap, the Thornton – Simpson duo began to score in the painted area, but Basabe answered from long distance. The efficiency from the perimeter gave the Santiago team the first half by 49 to 29.
After training, the distance was maintained in a couple of minutes, but Fernández and Valinotti raised the crowd at the Islas Malvinas Sports Center with their triples, forcing coach Ramella to call a timeout. Fernández continued to score, in Quimsa Basabe and Vasirani were the best in attack, at the end of the third the “Milrayitas” got into the game again, but a bomb by Basabe gave the visitors a 65-53 lead with one quarter left.
The man from Mar del Plata opened the last segment better with Filippa, but new triples by Quimsa with Brussino and Sansimoni calmed the local euphoria. Robinson stayed on the bench as a precaution after a hit, Peñarol put Thornton on the court to score again. Fernández and Thornton starred in the last local attack to get within six with 2’40” on the clock. In the epilogue Sansimoni assisted Ramírez Barrios and after Thornton’s free kick there was a failed offensive for each team, Vasirani finished everything with a slap near the basket. Santiago victory by 83 to 75 to advance in the series and be one win away from advancing to the semis. Brussino key with 17 points and 7 assists, Basabe author of 14 points and Gallizzi contributed 13, on the other side Fernández 22 points.
The series will continue this Saturday from 9 p.m. in Mar del Plata.
