Given up for adoption and raised in the Pérez Companc family, nicknamed “Goyo”, he became the fourth Argentine classified among the 500 richest people on earth. Shortly before his death, the sale of his companies to his children for a value of US$500 million was announced.

From a humble family to an Argentine business emporium

He was born in a humble home in 1934. His parents gave him up for adoption. The marriage formed by Margarita Companc by Pérez Acuña and by Ramón Perez Acuña, they adopted him and took him to live with their other three children. He went to La Salle College and in his training as a student they prepared him for the world of business and companies. His three brothers died and he, nicknamed familiarly as “Goyo”, was left as the only heir.

Thus he began to develop a family holding company that had oil as its flagship, with enormous development in the country and investments abroad, especially in Brazil. She was the head of the group PeComwhich had among other things Banco Río de la Plata, Compañía Naviera Pérez Companc and SADE SA

Already in 1988, they gave him the Platinum Konex Award for his career and importance in the business world of Argentina.

But as business multiplied, in 1999 he took a big leap. He bought 60% and went on to manage Río de la Plata Millsthe most important company in food manufacturing.

In total, the group came to control, within the Argentine industry, food, agriculture and energy. Its growth was exponential. From ten companies in 1973, it grew until reaching a maximum of 149 during the first presidency of Carlos Saúl Menem.

The sale of the oil company

The end of convertibility, despite the pesification asymmetric of debts in dollars, meant a hard blow to the finances of PeCom. “Goyo” decided to leave the oil business and sold his company to the Brazilian state company Petrobras.

In May of this year, Luis Pilar y Rosario, Three of his eight children bought the shares from three others: Jorge, Catalina and Cecilia. The new owners of the family holding company invoiced about US$3.5 billion in 2023.

With this generational change in the leadership of the Holding companyone of his sons returned to the oil business, especially with the possibilities opened by Dead cow.

“Munchi”, the partner and companion

Got married with María del Carmen Sundblad Beccar Varela in 1964. His daughter Margaret died when she was 19 years old. in a car accident. He also has a very famous nickname: “Munchi.”

His wife is the person in charge of the ice cream parlor that bears her nickname: “Munchi’s”, famous for making ice cream with milk only from Jersey cows, the second largest dairy breed in the world. She also formed the Temaiken Foundationa non-profit entity, which set up the biopark with that name (Temaikén) in Pilar.

In 2009 he passed on the management of the Holding to his son Luis. Since then, “Goyo” took Escobar as his main position, but he never completely ignored business. There he dedicated much of his time to his other passion: collect cars.
