The gold went to the student of the Luis Cruz Martínez High School, Zacarías García, in the 50 Meter Breaststroke category

In the Regional Swimming Championship of the School Sports Games in Antofagasta, with the participation of 15 students from high schools and schools in Calama, among whom, three students belonging to the Cesáreo Aguirre Goyenechea and Luis Cruz Martínez High Schools, managed to win five medals for the commune in the Under 14 Youth category, marking a historical milestone for the municipal establishments of Calama in the swimming discipline.

Zacarías García, representative of the Luis Cruz Martínez High School, took the gold medal in the 50-meter breaststroke category and the silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke category. For her part, Jasbel Hurtado from Liceo Cesáreo Aguirre Goyenechea, won the silver medal in the 50-meter breaststroke category. Gianfranco Haro, also from Liceo Cesáreo Aguirre Goyenechea, completed the podium with a silver medal in the 50-meter breaststroke and a bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke.

The competition was organized by the National Sports Institute and took place at the Edmundo Ziede Olympic Pool in Antofagasta, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and was attended by four delegates from different educational establishments in Calama. Fabiola Hernández, physical education teacher at Liceo Cesáreo Aguirre Goyenechea, acted as Comdes delegate and expressed her satisfaction with the positive experience that traveling to Antofagasta and returning to Calama represented for the students with important achievements in the swimming discipline. Hernández highlighted that obtaining five medals constitutes a historical milestone for the Calama high schools, given that never before has such resounding success been achieved in competitions of this nature by municipal establishments.

It is important to mention that Fabiola Hernández is also in charge of the Swimming Workshop at the Liceo Cesáreo Aguirre Goyenechea, which has 26 students, including Jasbel Hurtado and Gianfranco Haro, who stood out in the championship. Practices take place in the Ansco Country Club pools on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. In addition, special training is carried out in preparation for communal and regional competitions.

At the same time, the private educational establishments of Calama were also present on the occasion; San Ignacio School, Juan Pablo II School, Montessori School, Leonardo Da Vinci School, Obispo Silva Lezaeta School, whose students also demonstrated great performance at a regional level, also managing to win medals in different categories.
