A 35-year-old man with a repeated criminal record was arrested this Saturday morning in the Alta Córdoba neighborhood of the capital of Córdoba, after escaping from a police checkpoint, after which residents of the sector attacked the officers by throwing stones and bottles, according to official sources reported.

The incident began this Saturday around 10 in the morning in the neighborhood located north of the Suquía River, precisely at the intersection of Mariano Fragueiro and Espinel 770 streets, four blocks from the Children’s Hospital of the Municipality of Córdoba.

According to official sources, Córdoba Police officers tried to identify Ezequiel Cicarelli, with a long history, who apparently was carrying marijuana buds.

Upon noticing the police presence and the attempt at identification, Cicarelli decided to flee on foot, throwing away the drugs in the process. His escape was not prolonged, since he tried to escape by climbing to the roof of a nearby house, where he was finally arrested by police officers.

At that moment, several residents of the sector began to throw stones and bottles at the police officers. This reaction from the local residents caused the agents, in response, to use the new non-lethal long weapons to disperse the attackers, finally managing to control the situation and deter the attackers.

According to official sources, 64 shots were fired with the aforementioned weapons to control the situation in the sector and thus be able to disperse the neighbors who reacted violently against the police officers and their patrols.

The confrontation resulted in a police corporal with an injury to his left ankle due to the impact of a stone, while the other officer was bitten by a dog on his left calf. Both were later transferred to the Police Polyclinic to receive medical attention.

In addition, two patrol cars were damaged during the altercation during the confrontation between the troops and neighbors. One of the vehicles had complete damage to its windshield while the second had damage to the lower right part of the windshield.
