Due to the recent landslides that have occurred on this important road in the district, this measure was taken while the risk factors are eliminated. The Ministry of Health declared a yellow hospital alert until June 30, 2024 due to the rainy season.

With the aim of guaranteeing the safety of citizens and avoiding calamities, the District Mayor’s Office of Santa Marta informs that the Ziruma hill road will remain closed until further notice, due to the recent landslides that have occurred in this sector as a result of the constant rains that have fallen since Friday night.
The Government Secretariats, OGRICC, Infrastructure and Mobility were present at the site along with the Santa Marta Fire Department, who caused controlled landslides to prevent future disasters.
Mayor Carlos Pinedo Cuello reported that the emergencies caused by the intense rains in the city were being attended to early on. Mayoral staff are in the neighborhoods evaluating actions to mitigate the damage, and Ziruma was closed to evaluate the stability of the hill due to a rock slide. In addition, the material from the collapse on the road to Taganga was also removed to restore mobility.
The Ministry of Health declared a yellow hospital alert until June 30, 2024 due to the rainy season. The mayor highlighted that work is being done in all localities to evaluate and support the affected community, and recalled that the emergency lines are available to report any contingency and follow the recommendations of the district mayor’s office.
“I want to give some peace of mind to citizens that we are working everywhere. We are not going to leave them alone. The rains are going to increase and we have to be alert, all citizens have to be alert. Have complete peace of mind that the administration will be at all points where an emergency arises,” assured the mayor.
Starting from this event, additional measures will be implemented to improve surveillance and monitoring of the area. These actions include an increase in technical inspections to continually evaluate the stability of the hill. With these measures, we seek to anticipate possible risks and keep the community informed about the state of the road.
The District Mayor’s Office of Santa Marta recommends that citizens avoid passing through the Ziruma hill. We work together to guarantee the protection of all citizens.
