Victory for Adrián Bustamante in the first stage of the Vuelta a Colombia 2024 – Colombian Cycling Federation

The first stage of the Vuelta a Colombia 2024 was completed, which left Guateque and ended in Chivatá, on a 151-kilometer route, which was won by Adrián Bustamante of GW Erco Shimano from Boyacá, who beat Rodrigo Contreras (Nu Colombia) already Diego Camargo (Forte Petrolike – Androni Giocattoli, second and third, respectively.

Bustamante achieved his third victory of the season, after winning the sprint by overtaking his teammate, the national road champion Alejandro Osorio, in the last meters.

The fraction, unprecedented in the history of the competition, began with a breakaway of five riders: Robigzon Oyola (Team Medellín-EPM), Edgar Cadena (Forte Petrolike – Androni Giocattoli), Edgar Pinzón (GW Erco Shimano), Juan Diego Guerrero ( Team Sistecrédito) and Dany Osorio (Orgullo Paisa), who were quickly neutralized by the peloton.

At the height of Alto del Sisga the race situation changed and four riders counterattacked, Brayan Sánchez (Team Medellín-EPM), Bernardo Suaza (Forte Petrolike – Androni Giocattoli), Kevin Castillo (Team Sistecrédito) and Santiago Ramírez (Avinal-Alcaldía el Carmen de Viboral), who managed to stay at the front of the race until passing through Tunja, in which they were hunted by the peloton.

Contreras remains the leader of the general classification, 42 seconds behind Diego Camargo, and 48 seconds behind Wilson Peña (Team Sistecrédito)

It should be noted that, after being the protagonist in the special sprints, Brayan Sánchez assumed the leadership of this classification, while the Ecuadorian Jimmy Montenegro (Best PC) is the new leader of the mountain.

José Misael Urián of Team Sistecrédito remains the best Under-23 runner, while his teammate, Kevin Castillo, received the Combativity shirt.
