The age at which San Luis Potosí bureaucrats can retire is feasible to be extended; This was admitted by the head of the Pensions Directorate, Luis Arturo Coronado Puente, who referred to the trend in the management of pension systems, which with the reforms to the Law could increase the retirement age of workers.

With the above, the term of the contributions destined for your retirement would consequently be extended.

He also revealed that in working groups with the heads of state agencies, the obligation among bureaucratic workers to generate awareness that their contributions are not enough to cover a retirement life has been addressed, even less so when the hope of life is higher.

Regarding the payment of pensions, the state official explained that most of the social security systems in the country are legislation that dates back to between 1959 and 1965, when the average life span was 70 years, “now it is 75 and eventually up to 80 years.”

This change forces, he said, to seek to carry out a reform that would raise the age allowed for retirement of bureaucratic workers, “this measure would allow oxygenation of the State Pension System.”

He recalled that there is a natural process of depletion in the available retirement funds, such as those of the bureaucracy “because the contributions made by the workers are insufficient.”

With an increase in the number of retirees, he insisted, covering these retirements will be increasingly expensive and difficult, hence the feasibility of the retirement age of bureaucrats increasing, that is the trend.

Although for the above, he insisted, there would have to be changes to the Law, while creating awareness that currently the contributions are not enough to lead a dignified life at the end of life.

Finally, Coronado Puente noted that there are almost 65 years of distance between the creation of that Law and today, a time in which life expectancy has increased worldwide and Mexico and San Luis Potosí are no exception.
