Recently, World Prostate Cancer Day was commemorated, a date that invites us to raise awareness about one of the most common diseases among the world’s male population. As in most oncological pathologies, with early diagnosis and timely treatment, the difference can be made for the patient’s prognosis.

In early stages, prostate cancer can progress silently. This presents a risk, since by the time the first symptoms appear, it may mean that it is already in an advanced phase or spread throughout the body.

This is a tumor that often grows slowly and may not cause symptoms for many years. For this reason, early detection is important, provided by a simple test, such as prostate antigen, which is performed as part of the regular blood checks requested by any routine doctor. Prostate cancer mainly affects men over 40 years of age. In fact, it is estimated that after the fifth decade of life, taking prostate antigen should be mandatory.

Soon we will celebrate Father’s Day, a moment where, in addition to highlighting men and their role in the family and in society, we can open reflection on the importance of caring for their well-being. In the case of the elderly, the call is for us children to be alert to take care of them, take them to the doctor and monitor their health condition.

In general, men have a reputation for being more reluctant to go to the doctor regularly and get checked without having a problem to treat. However, in this case, it is important not to miss the tasks that maintaining well-being imposes, becoming aware and acting responsibly to live a healthier existence.
