The head of AOMA again against the Bases Law: “Argentina will negotiate with its pants in hand”

Hector Laplace.

After the criticism he made in San Juan, within the framework of the Mining Fair Expo and that were rebuked by the governor, Marcelo Orrego, the secretary general of the Argentine Mining Workers Association (AOMA), Héctor Laplace, strongly criticized the approval of the Base Law.

After the sanction in Senate, The union member stated that “the Argentina will negotiate with investors with his pants in his hand.

Once again, Laplace rejected the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI), arguing that it will not generate genuine employment in mining and will harm workers with the application of taxes.

According to Laplace, the AOMA, which has around 35 thousand members, is concerned about salaries and the impact of tax policies on mining workers, especially in provinces such as Santa Cruz and San Juan. He criticized the extractivist orientation of current policies and expressed concern about the future development of the country.

He emphasized that the implementation of the RIGI would force Argentina to depend too much on exploitation of natural resources without advancing true sustainable development. Laplace concluded by pointing out that more than 100 thousand families depend on active mining, including workers, suppliers and SMEs related to the sector.
