Chile prepares for a new frontal system: When and in which areas will it rain?

Recently, much of the country was affected by a intense frontal system that left hundreds of accumulated millimeters of rain in several cities, with flooding, river outflows, landslides and more.

However, while many wait for a break in the relentless rainfall, the weather forecast announces new rains for Chilespecifically for the third week of June.

New frontal system: more rain

Since last weekend, a category 4 to 5 atmospheric river, plus an extratropical cyclone, were the main causes of the constant rains that affected the south-central part of the country.

Now, according to what was reported by Meteored, on Saturday, June 15, another frontal system will enter the countrywith more rainfall and that, by Sunday night, will reach areas from Aysén to Los Lagos.

Thus, for Monday, June 17, showers are expected in the central zone, in the regions of La Araucanía, Bío Bío, Ñuble, Maule and O’Higgins.

And although, for now, they are only probabilities, rains are also expected between Tuesday, June 18 and Wednesday, June 19 in Valparaíso, Metropolitana and Coquimbo.

How much water will it rain?

Now, it should be noted that unlike the storm that Chile has just received from the extreme south to Atacama, this time, the amount of water falling due to rain will be lessbecause there will be less humidity.

The meteorologist from the Huinay PUCV-Enel Foundation, Miguel Fernández, clarified to BioBioChile that the rains will give us a break, but they will not abandon us completely.

“An important activity is detected over the Ocean in a succession of frontal systems that are being helped by an anticyclonic block in the polar zone and with it the imminent arrival of a new pulse,” the specialist explained.

Thus, the precipitation associated with this frontal system It is estimated between 5 and 10 millimeters of water fall in the central area. “Even on June 21, a third pulse could arrive with rains that could reach 20 millimeters,” she concluded.
