This June 16, landslides occurred in one of the most popular national parks in the country: the Los Nevados PNN, which covers the departments of Caldas, Tolima, Risaralda and Quindío. Due to these events, the Caldas Government reported that the entry of tourists is prohibited.

Although at the moment there have been no victims of the collapses, There are 32 people who were left incommunicado inside the park and have not yet been able to be evacuated.

“From the Departmental Risk Management, together with the Civil Defense and the Red Cross, We are attending to this emergency. We activate the protocol to evacuate the 32 people incommunicado in the park. We continue to coordinate the use of machinery to clear the area and provide security. We will keep the community informed about the progress,” the governor of Caldas, Henry Gutiérrez Ángel, said in his X account.

“On a day like today, when many planned to celebrate Father’s Day, this situation is especially unfortunate. However, we are relieved that there are no injuries reported at this time,” he added.

For its part, Paula Villamil, head of Risk Management in CaldasHe told Blu Radio that “the relief agencies are already on the way, Civil Defense and the Red Cross, since there are 32 people who were doing hiking activities and cannot pass. We are attentive to any information. The landslide must be attended to with machinery that we are also coordinating at this time.”

As read on the PNN page, the Los Nevados National Natural Park is located in the heart of the Coffee Region, in the northern volcanic complex made up of the Nevado del Ruíz volcano, La Olleta and La Piraña craters, and the Nevado de Santa Isabel volcano. , the Nevado del Tolima volcano, and the Paramillos del Cisne, Santa Rosa and Quindío. It was created as a Protected Area in 1974 to preserve three of the country’s remaining glaciers, super-paramo ecosystems, paramo, high Andean wetlands and high Andean forests.
