With various meetings in Santiago and with the support of some national and regional presidents of political parties of the Frente Amplio, university academic Marcela Tapia Ladino seeks to direct her career to the governorship of Tarapacá.

The Frente Amplio pre-candidate will have to overcome various stages ahead, such as the unification of the parties of her conglomerate, a process that is under development in view of the next elections. Also a doctor in Latin American Studies and a professor at the Arturo Prat University, she says she has support among women’s organizations and also dissidents.

This Saturday Tapia called a second meeting of women and dissidents, attended by a dozen women from the region to talk about the demands and needs that they aspire to capture in a program with a gender perspective.

“In these instances we seek to collect the concerns, the hopes, what the women in Tarapacá want (…) we jointly design several actions and strategies that we will continue to replicate in other instances and share through our social networks,” Tapia Ladino said at the end. of the meeting held in the center of the city of Iquique.

Bianca De Marchi, a social researcher by profession, was one of those attending the event, where she stressed that “these meetings are necessary to generate ideas collectively, to know our interests as women (…) it is important that we empower ourselves and dispute spaces to make them more democratic.”

Another of the attendees was Attorney Marcela Tapia, who is part of one of the feminist organizations that attended the meeting. She pointed out that “we have been able to listen to each other, be heard in our needs and also be able to raise a common goal to redefine our rights as women.”
