An important verification table was held at the facilities of the Guajira Police Department Command aimed at guaranteeing the safe return of the Wiwa communities to their ancestral territories in Tomarrazón, Juan and Medio, and the villages of El Limón, Naranjal and Cantadero, located in the rural area of ​​the Riohacha District.

The meeting was attended by the National Police, the National Army, the Secretary of the District Government, the Ombudsman’s Office, and representatives of the Wiwa indigenous community. The primary objective of this meeting was to reaffirm the security conditions necessary for the prompt return of these communities to their places of origin.

During the support table, the commitment of the authorities to protect and guarantee the human rights of the indigenous population was highlighted. Concrete measures were discussed to ensure a safe and peaceful environment, in which the Wiwa communities can live and develop according to their customs and traditions.

The National Police and the National Army highlighted their willingness to collaborate closely with indigenous communities, providing them with the necessary support and establishing permanent communication mechanisms to address their needs and concerns.

Likewise, the Ombudsman’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring respect and protection of the fundamental rights of the members of the Wiwa community, guaranteeing that their return is carried out in conditions of dignity, safety and well-being.
