With a magnificent gala that took place at the Santa Marta Theater, the University of Magdalena held the ‘Teaching Meeting 2024’, an event that exalted teachers for their contributions to education, research and innovation.
The Alma Mater awarded 38 awards for the work carried out by the professors, and for their exceptionalism with the creation of books, contributions to research, and permanence in the Institution, among others.
This event was chaired by Dr. Pablo Vera Salazar, rector of this House of Higher Studies, who in the middle of his speech to those present, shared great reflections on history in education, the role of teachers and students.
Some of the categories in which the pedagogues received their recognition are: Distinguished Professor, University of Magdalena Mention for Academic Merit; Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta Medal for Investigative Merit; Unimagdalena Medal of Merit and Excellence.
For teacher Hermes Henríquez Algarín, the recognition granted to him as ‘Distinguished Teacher’ represents great satisfaction and pride for so many years of dedication. The professor currently stands out as a member of the Institution’s Education Observatory.
And the promotions in the teaching ranks took place in the midst of that great event, in which the teachers rose to the categories such as ‘Full’ and ‘Associate’ teachers.
“Very grateful and excited for this recognition of the work and development as a teacher for more than 15 years,” highlighted Dr. Juan Álvarez Caballero, who was promoted to the ‘Titular’ category.
As well as moments of joy, during the evening feelings of nostalgia were experienced when remembering the teachers who left their mark on the academic community, that their legacy will always be remembered and highlighting that their crops continue to yield great harvests.
“Very grateful to the University of Magdalena because they were special to my daughter,” said Mrs. Nuris Alfaro, mother of teacher Vanessa Bernal Alfaro (RIP), who receives this tribute with great joy, but at the same time sadness when remembering that her daughter was a woman with many plans planned.
From the University of Magdalena, headed by rector Pablo Vera Salazar, teachers are annually recognized and congratulated for the work carried out with vocation and determination. The effort, time, knowledge and love that each of the pedagogues provides is exalted, in order to fulfill the same purpose, transforming lives through education.
