In a joint effort to strengthen higher education in Boyacá, an investment of 207,000 million pesos has been made, destined for the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia (UPTC). This ambitious project includes the construction of new headquarters and the expansion of existing infrastructure, benefiting thousands of students in the region.

With the presence of the Vice Minister of Education, Alejandro Álvarez Gallego, the Vice Minister of Higher Education, the rector of the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia (UPTC), Enrique Vera López, and Governor Carlos Amaya, the Educational Memorandum of Understanding was signed to make reality the headquarters of the UPTC for the provinces of Lengupá and Ricaurte, as well as for the expansion of the facilities of that university in Puerto Boyacá.

The president of Boyacá Carlos Andrés Amaya Rodríguez highlighted the historic investment, “82,000 million pesos of investment have been made by the department in what we have been advancing and in what will be made new, in what we are in execution. This has been a priority in the Boyacá Government, which also depends on what the previous departmental government has been building. The materialization of 122,000 million pesos that the Ministry of National Education will invest in the UPTC for new headquarters in Miraflores, Moniquirá, as well as the creation of laboratories and hybrid classrooms throughout the UPTC, is undoubtedly a historic investment. “We are very happy because this sum will help higher education reach the most remote regions.”

For his part, Alejandro Álvarez Gallego, Vice Minister of Higher Education, explained the relevance of the investments, “it is a mandate from the President to reach the regions with the university, the ‘University and Territory’ program aims to reach the province; Thanks to the fact that UPTC is a large university with a regionalization project, we are already here in the province of Ricaurte in Boyacá, but it is expanding throughout the department. The investment is gigantic, more than 12,000 billion pesos for higher education in Colombia, to reach young people who historically have not been able to access higher education. Today it materializes with the signing of this memorandum of understanding.”

Enrique Vera, rector of the UPTC, indicated the importance of the articulation and commitment of the government of Boyacá and Nacional, “the synergy between the Ministry of Education, the Government of Boyacá and the UPTC is important to launch these programs in Moniquirá and Miraflores, it is very important how it is articulated with the infrastructure that they are going to place, we are going to carry out the formulation of a project in phase 3, which is the detailed engineering. We have faith that construction will begin in the first two months of 2025, so that by mid-2026 it will be ready and we can inaugurate it.”

The investments that are being made and will be made in higher education in Boyacá amount to 207,000 million pesos, the memorandum of understanding specifies resources from the Government to the UPTC:
