Social and community leaders who have been victims of threats in the city of Cúcuta demand speed in the investigation processes by the authorities to guarantee their safety.

Despite the work groups that have been held, it has not been possible to establish an efficient measure that provides peace of mind to the leaders and in this way they can continue without any type of limitations to their communal work.

“It should be noted that at least this colonel called us to a work table, and like everything in Colombia, it is a matter of investigation, we did not receive the peace of mind report, we do not know what is happening with us, and we cannot leave, because We have commitments to the community and secondly, because where are we going? If we are going to allow ourselves to be displaced from our territories, we are not going to do anything,” Raúl Arévalo, president of the JAC of Colinas del Tunal, told Caracol Radio.

Although there has been support from the authorities, they claim that it has not been enough and they have had to take self-protection measures, hindering their work.

“From experience I always take precautions, and the Police have been accompanying, following up on these cases, they have been accompanying us, they have provided us with protection, whatever they can, because here we also have to understand that, unfortunately, there have to be dead or dead leaders.” attacks so that they pay attention to us” concluded Arévalo.
