With free admission, on June 21 and 22, the first international beekeeping meeting in the south of Mendoza will be held at the General Alvear fairgrounds. It seeks to unite those interested in beekeeping and promote the growth and development of the activity in the region.
The program includes, on the first day, presentations on the keys to successful entrepreneurship, the steps for beekeeping initiation, the multiplication of apiaries and the replacement of queens.
For the second day, the management of the hives at the end of the season and the beginning of spring is planned, culminating with nutrition and health.
“The main idea of this meeting arose with a group of colleagues, because training on the subject has not been carried out in the south of Mendoza for around fifteen years,” said Marcos Amorós, a beekeeping businessman from General Alvear.
“The objective of the event is to provide new information to beekeepers and bring together other entrepreneurs interested in developing economic activity,” said Amorós.
The event is organized by Beekeepers of South Mendocino and sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, the Municipality of General Alvear, the Livestock Directorate of the province and the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA).
Much expectation
Amorós maintained that beekeepers from different parts of the country who will participate in the training have already confirmed their presence and who seek to introduce new techniques and encourage the participation of young people and adolescents in the activity.
Amorós stressed that “it is important to train a new generation of beekeepers, since currently there is a generational gap in the activity. “Beekeeping is a noble activity that requires dedication and passion.”
That is why, within the framework of the meeting, they are preparing a contest for young people and adolescents who must create a reel about the importance of beekeeping. The prize will be 100,000 pesos.
