Sigifredo Márquez Trujillo, father of the vice president of Colombia, Francia Márquez, was the target of an armed attack this Sunday in the rural area of Jamundí, Valle del Cauca. Fortunately, both he and a minor who accompanied him emerged from the incident unharmed.
On Sunday afternoon, the vehicle in which Sigifredo Márquez was traveling with a minor was the target of shots, attributed by the authorities to the Jaime Martínez bloc of the FARC dissidents. Despite the attack, the vice president’s father and her security companion were not injured.
Vice President Francia Márquez expressed her dismay at the attack against her father through social networks, asking the Prosecutor’s Office to initiate the relevant investigations. In addition, she called on the Ministry of Defense to reinforce security in Cauca and Valle del Cauca, underlining the need to work together for peace in Colombia.
This incident has generated concern in the region and has highlighted the fragility of security in sensitive areas of the country, where social leaders and their families continue to face threats and violent attacks.
