The Uagrm reopens its doors after six days of occupation

The Gabriel René Moreno Autonomous University (Uagrm) resumed its activities this Monday, June 17, after six days of takeover by students who demanded the dismissal of the dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Alejandro Velarde.

The doors of the educational modules opened at 6:30 and from early on a constant flow of students and teachers could be observed entering the classrooms to resume face-to-face classes. Open classrooms, vehicle circulation, full parking lots and the usual movement once again filled the streets and walkways of the Uagrm.

The reopening was also effective on the University Campus, where the administrative offices and the rectorate are located. The offices are already serving the public on a regular basis for those who need to carry out a procedure.

The taking and the resolution

The takeover of the Uagrm began last Monday, June 10, after the leak of some audios in which the voice of Dean Velarde was supposedly heard making discriminatory comments and alluding to acts of corruption.

After six days of protest, the students accepted the resolution of the University Justice Court that restricted Dean Velarde’s powers to manage resources and hire personnel. Besides, the dean was suspended for four months without pay within a process followed by a teacher.
