Second day without movements in the informal currency market in Cuba

After a chain of five days of successive falls, the reference currencies in Cuba dawned another day without changes in their prices.

If the balance does not change during this Monday, dollars, euros and freely convertible currency (MLC) maintain the same values recorded the previous day.

Today would be the second consecutive day in which the reference currencies of the Cuban informal market do not suffer alterations in their prices, opening up to the possibility of relative stabilization amid the streak of dramatic ups and downs recorded since the beginning of May.

At eight in the morning on June 17, the European currency maintains its price in 360 Cuban pesos (CUP).

The dollar, for its part, remains stable at 350 CUPwhile the MLC continues to be quoted at 300 pesos.

The last two times in recent weeks that the three currencies have taken a pause, it has been to change the course of their evolution, either up or down.

This is what happened on June 4 and then on the 10th. The first slowdown served as a prelude to new increases and the second, on Monday of this same week, the pause to new falls.

That decline that began on June 10 came last week after five days of dizzying increases in which euros, dollars and MLC almost recovered values prior to the May decline.

In any case, the volatility of the Cuban informal market confirms again and again the drift of the Cuban economy and the inability of the “continuity” government to implement an effective monetary policy that establishes a stable official exchange rate for a population whose needs basics find partial relief in foreign exchange trading.

Exchange rate today 06/17/2024 – 8:40am in Cuba:

  • Dollar exchange rate USD to CUP according to the touch: 350 CUP
  • Euro exchange rate EUR to CUP according to the touch: 360 CUP
  • Exchange rate of MLC to CUP according to the touch: 300 CUP

The informal Cuba exchange rate offered here is not officially recognized or endorsed by any financial or government entity.
