Emmanuel Gaviria Benítez, a young 14-year-old skater from the municipality of Zaragoza, was murdered last Saturday, June 15, in Caucasia, Bajo Cauca, Antioquia.

Another 19-year-old man was also injured in the attack. Marlon Mieles Ramoswho also received gunshot wounds, but is out of danger.

According to information released by local media, the attack occurred in the El Roble neighborhood of that municipality.

There the two young people were intercepted by two gunmen who arrived on a motorcycle and later opened fire indiscriminately against them.

Emmanuel died as a result of the severity of the injuries received, while Mieles Ramos survived the attack, but was badly injured after apparently having been hit in the chest and in one of its upper extremities, according to preliminary information.

For now, it has emerged that Emmanuel was a young man from the Alto de Luz Marina neighborhood in the municipality of Zaragoza. He and his family had resided in Caucasiabecause his parents worked there.

Enmanuel was a skater, and in Zaragoza he joined the Cacique Mataba skater club, with which he won several competitions in Antioquia and Córdoba.

The Mayor’s Office of Caucasia rejected the fact and at the head of his Government Secretary, José Alejandro Payares Ricardorequested support from the departmental and national government so that together they can find solutions to the delicate public order situation in the municipality.

“We reject the murder of the minor Emmanuel, a fact that mourns us and fills us with sadness not only to Caucasia but to all of Bajo Cauca. The Prosecutor’s Office and the Public Force, in coordination with the Mayor’s Office, are now behind the perpetrators of this incident,” Payares said.

“We call on the national and departmental governments to turn their gaze to Bajo Cauca, a region that greatly requires their support to confront illegal armed actors,” the secretary said.

Regarding the reasons for the atrocious crime, the motives that motivated the murder of this teenager are unknown.
