The father of the vice president of Colombia, Francia Márquez, Sigifredo Márquez Trujillo, emerged unharmed from an attack perpetrated this Sunday when he was traveling between the departments of Cauca and Valle del Cauca, in the southwest of the country, according to official sources.

The attack took place when Márquez Trujillo was traveling with a nephew of the vice president between the towns of Timba, in the turbulent department of Cauca, and the Robles hamlet, a rural area of ​​Jamundí (Valle del Cauca).

“My heart hurts that, on this day, there was an attack against my father. I inform that my father, along with my 6-year-old nephew and the two protection men, suffered an attack on the Suárez-Cali highway, at the height of of Timba, fortunately they emerged unharmed from the attack and are fine,” said the vice president in a statement in which she made reference to Father’s Day, which is celebrated today in Colombia.

Furthermore, it was found that the expertise of the truck driver and the reaction of the bodyguards with whom Sigifredo Márquez and his 6-year-old nephew were travelingwas key to preventing the damage from being greater and being able to evade the attack.
