Intense fog complicated visibility on the approaches to Córdoba this Tuesday and traffic authorities asked motorists to drive with caution.

Around 7 o’clock, visibility was less than 100 meters in some sectors such as the Airport area and the Córdoba Carlos Paz highway toll.

There were also complications on Japan Avenue and other points.

Tips for driving in fog

  • The phenomenon also occurred in localities in the interior of the province.
  • Reduce the speed of your car or motorcycle: this way you will have more time to react in case of any unforeseen event.
  • Use your rearview mirrors: these will help you control the movement of vehicles behind you. On the other hand, don’t forget to signal, using your taillights (wink), when changing lanes or any other movement you have to make.
  • Keep the low beams on: Before leaving, be sure to turn on the low beams. This way, your vehicle will be seen by others. If you have fog lights, don’t hesitate to turn them on as well.
  • Try to find listening aids: avoid anything that could divert your attention. Conversations, radio and cigarettes can break the monotony in normal situations, but when it’s foggy they can be distracting. We recommend honking your horn from time to time to alert pedestrians and other vehicles of your presence. Also, stay alert for sound signals from other vehicles: horns, engines or sirens.
  • If you need to stop due to a problem or damage: turn on the beacons, open the trunk and hood, place the emergency “triangle” beacon about 40 steps from your vehicle. In the case of motorcycles, leave the motorcycle running and the lights on. If the motorcycle has a beacon, activate it; Otherwise, place the wink to the right. Under no circumstances should you move away from the vehicle.
  • Turn off your fog lights when you have passed through the fog bank and can see the road. In many cases, keeping the fog lights on when not necessary confuses vehicles behind.
  • Do not “stick” to the vehicle in front: if you do not keep a safe distance, in the event of a sudden or abrupt braking, you will be unable to perform any defensive maneuver.
  • Do not use the beacon when you are crossing the fog bank: it is very common for drivers to use the beacons in these cases, but they confuse the rest of the vehicles, since they indicate that the car is stopped.
  • Look for visual aids: seeing through fog is often difficult, so always try to find a visual support point: the central line (yellow), lateral lines (white) and cats’ eyes. If you can’t find a foothold, try to guide yourself with the shoulder.
