Sancti Spíritus, Jun 28 (ACN) The departure of all scheduled trips in the last two years and a technical availability coefficient of around 70 percent amid resource limitations distinguish the Base Business Unit (UEB) Ómnibus Nacionales Sancti Spíritus, an entity that in the coming days plans to incorporate the route to Cienfuegos, the only one that remained without reopening.

In statements to ACN, Jorge Luis Rodríguez Ojito, director of the UEB that hosted today, in this city, the provincial celebration for the Day of the Transporter, explained that, despite the shortage of lubricants, tires, fuel and other supplies, none of the routes have been left uncovered; and, in fact, help has been provided to other nearby places due to their difficulties with the cars, he said.

He assured that territories such as Villa Clara, Cienfuegos and Ciego de Ávila have received support from the Sancti Spiritus transportation means; meanwhile, he insisted on the work of the drivers and mechanics, workers with a high sense of belonging and who constantly test their innovative capacity to maintain the technical condition of the equipment.

In addition to the contribution of more than five million pesos in the last stage, Ómnibus Nacionales Sancti Spíritus added the search for alliances with other entities to ensure, for example, lubricants and the upcoming reactivation of trips – twice a week – to the Pearl of the South.

According to Rodríguez Ojito, this is the only route that was missing after the COVID-19 pandemic and its route through the so-called southern circuit also guarantees the transfer of passengers from Trinidad.

In addition to the routes from this and four other Sancti Spiritus locations to Havana, the UEB maintains its trips to Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo, Camagüey, Matanzas and Villa Clara, the latter with two daily frequencies.

One of the main challenges of the entity is the stability of the three medibuses that, in several weekly departures, guarantee the transfer of patients to hospital facilities in the Cuban capital and Santa Clara; it is a service that we always prioritize due to the social impact it has, said the director.

José Lorenzo García, head of the Transportation Directorate of the Provincial Administration of People’s Power, pointed out that this day has a special significance due to the designation of the territory as the central headquarters for July 26, above all, because this is one of the sectors that shows stability, maintains vital services and strengthens ties with other economic actors to assume diverse services.

The transportation of patients requiring hemodialysis, one of the most humane tasks they perform, the transfer of health workers from other municipalities to hospital institutions in this city and of university students and the collection of teachers stand out today in the guild.

There has also been no lack of the implementation of alternatives and the constant recovery of means to incorporate vehicles such as electric minibuses that arouse interest throughout Cuba and stabilize urban transport routes or to the rest of the municipalities.
