The company temporarily closed its facility in Puerto Montt. He accused the authorities of lack of interest in generating growth in the national sector.

The national company, Salmones Aysén, is currently facing a moment of complex decisions, amid the restrictions experienced by the aquaculture industry in all its productive regions.

This is how the company, which works mainly with coho salmon, had to temporarily stop operating its plant located in Puerto Montt.

In this regard, the president of the firm, Pablo Baraona, informed Salmonexpert that, until some time ago, “we had a makeup contract that suffered a significant reduction of almost two thirds and that forced us to not be able to reopen our Puerto plant. “Mont.”

For the founder of the salmon farming company, it will always be in the plans to reopen this plant in Puerto Montt, “but for that we need to increase our production, which for the moment, like the rest of the industry, is stagnant.”

According to Baraona, unfortunately, “there is no interest on the part of the authorities to promote growth in salmon farming in Chile,” which has been widely criticized by companies in the sector.

“We will concentrate our operation in our plant in Ancud and some small maquilas in a third plant,” said the president and founder of Salmones Aysén.

The industry is attentive to what happens with the new Aquaculture Law, because through it, the future of salmon farming in our country is at stake. He also looks with concern at all the changes that will be made to the ECMPO – Coastal Marine Spaces for Indigenous Peoples – that paralyze investment.
