A Paris court on Wednesday upheld an international arrest warrant issued by France against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on charges of complicity in war crimes during the Syrian civil war, international media reported.
French judicial authorities issued international arrest warrants in November against the president; his brother Maher al-Asad, commander of the 4th Armored Division; and two Syrian generals, Ghassan Abbas and Bassam al-Hassan, accusing them of complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity, including participation in a chemical weapons attack in 2013 against Damascus suburbs then occupied by the opposition.
