Radio Nuevitas – Actions advance to boost Cuba’s economy

Havana, June 18.- The Prime Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz, assured that in the last month there was tangible progress in the actions carried out to boost the economy.

Marrero Cruz made the assertion in the National Capitol, during an extraordinary session of the Council of State, when reporting on how the implementation of the measures to correct distortions and re-boost the economy in 2024 is progressing.

As reported by the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP, Parliament), the Prime Minister stressed that, since May 20, the most important progress was in the proposal of decisions, aimed at correcting macroeconomic imbalances and encouraging production.

Provisions focused on reducing the fiscal deficit, generating foreign currency income, strengthening the socialist state enterprise and improving the banking process, among other issues of great social impact, are added.

In one of his interventions, the president of the Council of State, Esteban Lazo, urged “contributing from all sectors and actors of society” to the efforts to revitalize the economy, which he considers very important “to defend the achievements of the Revolution”.

The members of the highest legislative body also examined “the impact of the measures applied to control prices, one of the topics of greatest interest and concern of the population today,” according to the communication.

Regarding the issue, the Minister of Finance and Prices Vladimir Regueiro stated that this organization verified the situation in six provinces and 33 municipalities in the last stage, in addition to carrying out inspections at retail and wholesale prices, among other actions.

During the debate, the need to intensify control and increase the response to violations was insisted on to achieve the required effectiveness, always in accordance with parliamentary information.

On the other hand, the Council of State “agreed to call for accountability meetings of the delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power” from September 20 to November 15.

In the session, which was attended by the Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, Lazo reported on the preparation of the Third Ordinary Period of Sessions of the National Assembly of People’s Power, in its 10th Legislature.

Similarly, Homero Acosta, secretary of Parliament and the Council of State, explained the activities planned to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the local bodies of People’s Power.

Other issues of national importance were also discussed and the agreements adopted by this body in its previous meetings were checked.
