The Directorate of Environment and Food Safety reported that the castration schedule continues successfully in the city. Thus, as of June, 844 animals, including dogs and cats, have been neutered since the Population Balance program was resumed in May.

This week castrations are scheduled for:

Tuesday, June 18: La Cuchilla neighborhood (Club La Cuchimarra – streets: Rep. Oriental and Jaime de Nevares)
Wednesday, June 19: Supichini neighborhoods, (El gapón- Rioja and Massafferro streets)

Castrations begin at 7 a.m. until the activity ends (normally it is before 1 p.m.). For shifts and inquiries, call 3446-414163.

It is remembered that castrations are not suspended due to rain and that the animals must arrive at the operating room dry and with the corresponding fasting. In addition, it is also important to highlight that the owners of the animals will have to be responsible for their transport, before and after the intervention.

The Municipal Neutering program, approved by Ordinance No. 12,803/23, contemplates “the prohibition of the sacrifice of dogs and cats”; and maintains “as the only ethical and efficient method to control the population growth of dogs and cats, the practice of free, massive, non-exclusive, systematic, widespread and early surgical castration of males and females, of the canine and feline species.”

The program, under the coordination of María Antúnez, also has a total of seven people responsible for carrying it out, among whom are: a coordination assistant, an operating room assistant and two veterinarians. In addition, it is being considered to incorporate two interns belonging to the Veterinary Medicine program of the Faculty of Food Science.

We remember that the offices of the Municipal Veterinary Area are located in the former Gualeguaychú refrigerator, in the facilities in front of the current Municipal Volleyball Court. The opening hours are: Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. at 6pm. and Saturdays at 7am. to 7 p.m.
