To address the demands of the territory, this activity promoted by the Regional Government of Los Ríos together with the Valdivian municipality will be carried out.

With the objective of generating an instance of citizen participation through dialogue spaces aimed at citizens, the Regional Government of Los Ríos together with the Municipality of Valdivia, promoted the creation of a Regional Citizen Security Council in Los Ríos.

The financing of the initiative was analyzed in the Security Commission of the Regional Council, with the subsequent approval of $9 million from the Regional Investment Program.

The initiative will provide a space for dialogue for neighborhood leaders from across the region, where they can present the reality of citizen security in their communities, through a participatory and expository methodology, from which a prioritization of regional investment.

Regional authorities, parliamentarians, police representatives, among others, will also participate in the event.

As a result of the dialogue, the compilation and survey of the evidence of the participatory process is expected, which will allow for the positioning of a regional perspective on security matters, which will foster the strengthening of public policies and the implementation of programs and initiatives that seek to reduce the feeling of insecurity in the territory.

Generate a public security policy

“It is a proposal that comes from the Security Unit of the Regional Government and also from the Security Commission of the Regional Council, in order to open a citizen space, in this case next to the municipality of Valdivia, to listen to the neighbors, especially its leaders,” explained the regional governor, Luis Cuvertino.

The regional authority indicated that this instance will allow establishing an objective demand for security issues, focused mainly on the neighborhoods.

“We hope that this will allow us to generate a public policy consistent with the needs raised and complementary to the work done by both the police and the Ministry of the Interior,” Cuvertino concluded.

In turn, the regional advisor and president of the Security Commission, Matías Fernández, explained that: “The approval of this Regional Security Council project is a desire that was discussed within the Security Commission and we are happy.” having approved”.

“We hope with this to generate a horizontal conversation of civil society, security committees and neighborhood units, public and private institution police units in relation to security in order to prioritize regional investment in this matter in the coming years” , he commented.

Finally, the regional councilor, Juan Carlos Farías, stated that: “The idea is to give people the opportunity to express where the problems are and for this we have provided resources.”

“In addition, we are looking at the possibility of expanding this council to the Province of Ranco, as well as in other communes in the region,” he indicated.

The town hall will take place next Friday, June 28, from 9 a.m., at Club La Unión, in Valdivia.
