A new attempt to harass the Public Force was registered in Cauca, this time in the urban area of the municipality of Morales. Army and police clashed with the armed group.
The attack began around 7:45 pm on Tuesday, June 18, by alleged FARC dissidents.
Military sources confirmed that the dissidents were traveling in vehicles that arrived at a commercial area.
Apparently, the intention of the members of the armed group was to take over the police station, but they did not count on the reaction of the army that was stationed in the urban area of the municipality. In a joint action they managed to repel the attack.
“There was not much intensity compared to what has happened on other occasions, but there was an exchange of shots,” said Manuel Alejandro Velasco, Morales councilor.
Images of the situation were captured in several videos that the residents of this town recorded while they tried to take refuge in their homes.
The clashes lasted around 15 minutes, according to Brigadier General Federico Mejía, commander of the Cauca Specific Command. “At around 7:45 at night, a patrolman from the ‘Jaime Martínez’ tried to attack the Police station in Morales, but in this situation, the presence of our men from the José Hilario López battalion who were in the area high thwarted the terrorist intention, just as the Police reacted in a timely manner.”
He said that there was a combat that lasted around 15 minutes, slowing down the passage of this armed structure.
No injuries or material damage were reported.
