Inside the Modelo prison in Cúcuta there are 79 cases where there are serious overcrowding problems.

In Norte de Santander, health authorities are on full alert due to the increase in tuberculosis cases.

“The increases are not representative, but nevertheless, we continue to execute preventive and immediate care plans,At the end of the previous year we had 281 cases and as of May 31 of this year we had 297 “said Fernando Álvarez, director of the Departmental Health Institute (IDS).

The most affected areas with patients facing the problem of tuberculosis are found in Cúcuta, Villa del Rosario, the entire border area with Venezuela and Catatumbo.

Likewise, Fernando Álvarez said that, through basic equipment, specialized personnel such as vector teams, they seek to reach the most complicated areas due to their distance and geography.

“We have an increase, although we must admit it is slight, this is the case in Villa del Rosario, where 12 cases are registered, Tibú from 9 to 11 cases and in Ocaña from 7 to 10 cases,” said Fernando Álvarez, director of the IDS.

The most delicate situation occurs in the Cúcuta model prison, with 79 cases of tuberculosis,of which six are in isolation, two in phase I, which implies a greater risk of contagion, and four due to resistance to treatment.

Officials from the Cúcuta Health Secretariat indicate that there is no outbreak, and that the cases have not been concentrated in a single place, but have been recorded in the different courtyards of the penitentiary center.

According to this secretariat,The ordered PCR tests have been carried out due to the presence of several patients with respiratory symptoms,and said that the positive case was isolated in the Special Treatment Unit for a month, while his smear test was performed.
