From the Nutrir Salta Foundation, they confirmed to El Tribuno the receipt of powdered milk, from CONIN, which will be distributed to 550 underweight children who are part of the programs offered by said institution, in order to eradicate child malnutrition in the province. The supply arrived last Friday. Nutrir’s work points are located in the Solidaridad neighborhood, Avenida Entre Ríos and Junín, in Salta Capital, and Morillo de Rivadavia Banda Norte.

This is part of the food that generated controversy a few weeks ago, which was stored in the warehouses of Villa Martelli, Buenos Aires. It is worth remembering that the Ministry of Human Capital communicated about the signing of an agreement with the CONIN Foundation so that, through distribution centers, it facilitates the provision of more than 465 thousand kilos of powdered milk to vulnerable social sectors. according to official sources.

The director of Nutrir Salta, Juan Ibañez, highlighted the work carried out by CONIN: “CONIN has an entire proven work process, managing to free thousands of children from malnutrition and at Nutrir we work applying the same methodology.”

The milk will be distributed at the Nutrir Children’s Centers in Salta

The director of Nutrir Salta clarified that the milk sent to them is specifically for the four Children’s Centers that the Nutrir Foundation has in Salta. “We only got milk for our boys. We are very grateful, this is a huge help since it will cover us for two months.” He then expressed: “We are happy because it only has an expiration date in October. Which will allow us to deliver proportionally and ensure that they reach the underweight children who are part of our programs.”

He also explained that when milk is delivered to the mothers of children with nutritional risk, especially in Rivadavia Banda Norte, Morillo and other communities, then they work with nutritionists, educational psychologists, among others, who monitor the health of the children and its evolution.

And regarding the milk that came to them he said: “They offered us milk, we said yes of course and asked for two months. That is why the supply that we received expires in October.” He later clarified that it was only requested for the children of the Nutrir Foundation. “They sent us to our Centers and children. For us it is a great help. We live in complex times, we finance ourselves with private individuals who donate milk or send us money, to whom we send reports on how we use those resources.”

However, he stressed that in this time of crisis many “cut back on donations.” And he maintained that rampant inflation left milk costs “sky high.” “This supply of milk will cover us for two months. It is a huge help and especially because it expires in October. “What allows us to deliver proportionally, with the logistics that it implies and control that it complies in order to nourish the children.”

About Nutrir Salta

Regarding Nutrir Salta, Ibañez commented that it is a Foundation from Salta and its entire board of directors is made up of Salteños. Then, he stressed that the goal is to eradicate malnutrition. We start with the foundation that “if a child eats as he should, he will be healthy.”

The Centers and Programs of Nutrir Salta

And he explained: “With our human promotion programs we serve 550 children, now with respect to the delivery of milk, we have four CONIN solidarity franchises. “That has a proven work process that has managed to free thousands of children from malnutrition.”

Then he explained that they have an agreement with CONIN and the entire professional team of the Foundation follows the same work methodology, “controlling and passing reports.”

Regarding the work points of Nutrir Salta, he said that they have spaces in the Solidaridad neighborhood, on Entre Ríos and Junín avenues, where they serve mothers from Campo Quijano, Rosario de Lerma, Atocha and another in Morillo. In the latter they serve children from Morillo and Rivadavia Banda Norte. “We have four large Centers, with different educational projects for school support. In the area we saw that school dropouts occur due to their language, since at home they speak Wichi. “After the pandemic we detected these problems.” That is why he detailed that they are accompanying them with “bilingual support” so that they receive education and advance. Furthermore, he said: “In the union we have a kindergarten with bilingual assistance, where we give small training courses.”

The work that Nutrir Salta does for underweight children

Juan Ibañez explained: “We provide the children with a snack, which is chocolate milk. And we give milk to the mothers to provide them, but they are children who are in our programs that not only seek to recover them nutritionally, but where we also give them educational training.” And he explained that the children attend the Nutrir Salta Centers once a week. Where they are controlled by educational psychologists, nutritionists, among other professionals. “From our Foundation we do not do welfare, we seek to generate employability, that is why we also provide small training sessions.”

They recover children with a degree of mild malnutrition

Then, the director of Nutrir highlighted that they seek, above all, that the children escape the nutritional risk and comply with the treatment. “All the children we accompany have a degree of mild malnutrition, which are the cases admitted to our programs. Since when there is chronic and advanced malnutrition, they need to consume milk from special formulas. So in those cases we coordinate with hospitals and some provincial programs, so that they take care of their health.”

In addition, he added that they reach families from different communities far from Rivadavia, Santa Victoria Este, Morillo, Banda Sur, La Unión, among other points. “In those communities we have a presence on a weekly basis.” And he said: “As for underweight children, the mothers come with the children and we check them to see how they are progressing and thus we discharge them.”

Finally, he highlighted that the provision of milk was a one-time only: “There will be no continuity, it is just this once. That’s why I ask the community to enter our site and collaborate. Since it is very important work that we do for children with nutritional risk.”
