Darío Navarro Riquelme, leader of the poomsae specialty in Cuba, won bronze in the Taekwondo Open, which was held these days in Madrid, capital of Spain.

The Antillean, who participated in the freestyle for those under 30 years of age, was only surpassed by the hosts, in a contest where 21 taekwondo athletes participated.

«The Madrid open is one of the strongest in the world and this was a qualifier for the taekwondokas who will represent Spain in kyorugui and poomsae at the Hong Kong 2024 World Taekwondo Championships, in China, next November, for which Darío “It is already registered,” the president of the Cuban Taekwondo Federation Ivan Fernández Quirós told JIT.

«Darío has had a good championship. He is among the medalists in such a difficult category. We consider the performance to be very good,” highlighted Ángel Muñoz from the headquarters, who together with the world champion Yolanda Ubero prepare Darío for the World Cup.

The event, organized by the Royal Spanish Taekwondo Federation, took place at the Municipal Gallur sports center, where the elimination in combat also took place.
