APROCAM protests Argentina’s inefficiency in clearing the way to Chile

After 17 days of cutting off the Cristo Redentor Pass, today it was learned that Chile has had the clear route to Los Caracoles for more than 48 hours; The problem is that on the Argentine side the clearance work is being done with few machines and at a very slow pace.

Members of the Mendoza Truck Owners Association (APROCAM) went up to Las Cuevas today and verified that the clearing of the road is being done at an unusual pace, after more than two weeks of closure in the International Corridor; There were only three shovels to clear the snow, in addition to a rolba, in the Curva de la Soberanía and Horcones area.

“There is a lot of unrest in transport; we have been waiting for the opening for 17 days and today they tell us that they will not open until Sunday or Monday, when the conditions for passing are given, only that they do not clear the road on the Argentine side” explained the president of APROCAM, Ricardo Squartini. To which the Treasurer of the institution, Carlos Messina added: “Argentina must be the only country to which exports do not matter, when they are the only source of foreign currency income, a country without dollars has the luxury of merchandise “Don’t reach your destination!”

Rumors yesterday indicated that Chile had rushed to clear its part of the route of snow, because the ski season in Portillo opens on Saturday And there are economic reasons to hurry. Good for Chile, which did it in record time.

Argentina, on the other hand, does not seem to have understood the message, despite the fact that a Chilean truck driver lost his life while waiting for the reopening of the ACI Uspallata, a place where the cold is inhumane and there is no infrastructure to provide shelter. To this tragedy we must add the million-dollar losses caused by this long closure of the Pass, which concentrates 70% of the international freight traffic between Argentina and Chile.
