Through its official website, the Colombian Football Federation announced that the FVS (Football Video Support) will be used. during the tournament that will take place starting August 31 and runs until September 22.

According to the FCF, “FIFA will use, in the U-20 Women’s World Cup to be held in our country, a simplified version of the VAR system.”

In addition, they highlighted that one of the main objectives of this new version is to make the VAR more efficient in decision-making and highlights how the FVS will operate.

“The new tool does not use specialized video match officials, meaning it does not automatically check match actions. That said, with the new system, the responsibility falls on the two head coaches, who will be able to make a limited number of requests for review per game,” the official statement reads.

It should be noted that this means that unlike VAR, as it is known today, The FVS may be used on certain occasions, as long as it is requested by one of the coaches of the teams in the match. Furthermore, this new version will be requested only in actions where the VAR already intervenes, such as penalties, offside goals, among others.

“The (FVS) version is an example of the work that world football’s governing body is doing to help referee teams with the use of new technologies,” reads the FCF website.

Colombia will debut in this tournament on August 31 against the Australian National Team at the Nemesio Camacho el Campín stadium at 3:00 pm (local time).
