A PZL M-18 model plane, one of the so-called “dromedaries” or agricultural aircraft, crashed this Thursday morning near the town of Peralejo, in the Sancti Spiritus municipality of La Sierpe, while it was carrying out a routine fumigation of the rice crops, as confirmed exclusively to Escambray Ernesto Cuéllar, director of the ENSA Sancti Spíritus Base Business Unit.

The pilot, whose identity has not yet been revealed, suffered minor injuries that are currently being treated by the corresponding health services, but does not report any danger to life, according to statements from the aforementioned source.

At this moment, a commission of experts is investigating on site the causes that led to such an unfortunate accident.

Planes like the one that crashed this Thursday are frequently used in the fumigation of rice plantations and in extinguishing fires, including large ones such as the one that occurred at the Matanzas Supertanker Base.
