With the aim of starting actions in response to the early warnings issued by the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies, Ideam, due to the arrival of the La Niña Phenomenon, the Departmental Administration led the Departmental Risk Management Committee expanded, where the mayors and representatives of the municipal risk offices participated.

During the meeting, the leader of the people of Magdalen established a great joint plan that contemplates the identification of critical points and foresees the different risk scenarios in the face of the imminent winter wave that will hit the country, especially the Caribbean region.

“We are preparing for the La Niña phenomenon, therefore, each of the mayors and representatives of the municipal risk offices have been left with tasks and responsibilities to mitigate the impact that the rains may cause in the Department,” said the sectional official.

Before the end of this month of June, the Departmental Administration will implement a joint work route that includes the maintenance and cleaning of canals and jarillons, formation of retaining walls, review of bridges, among others, which will be carried out in a manner coordinated with the mayors as preventive actions in each of the municipalities. In addition, machinery and humanitarian aid banks will be put into service, and shelters will be characterized and identified.

“We are going to present this plan to the National Government and a visit is required from the director of the National Risk Management Unit so that he not only supervises works that are about to fail, but also that he can support us with a series of global requests for the entire Department,” he explained.

Within the space, the support role played by the department’s government was agreed because the mayors are the first responsible for mitigating and addressing the different risk scenarios that arise. In turn, the mayors praised the medical and humanitarian care provided in the contingencies presented in Apure in Plato and Chinoblas in Pivijay.
