The plenary session demands to improve train connections from Calahorra to Madrid

The Arnedo City Council demands that the Government of Spain promote new train frequencies to Madrid with a stop in Calahorra and vice versa with a duration of less than three hours to promote communications in the city of footwear and its industry. with the capital of the country. He did so through the motion presented by the Popular Party and unanimously supported by the other three groups with municipal representation in the plenary session of the Corporation at the end of May.

Taking into account the historical debt of our region in transport infrastructure, and the negative impact it has on the social, personal, tourist and economic aspects, the popular motion demands the “obligation” of the central Executive towards La Rioja to place it on the national map of transport infrastructure, paying special attention to the railway section.

For Arnedans, the closest train connection with Madrid is the only direct one that leaves Calahorra at 8:03 in the morning and arrives in the capital at 11:00. Returning, the direct train leaves at 6:05 p.m. and arrives at 8:45 p.m. According to the popular ones, complicated schedules to carry out any type of management in Madrid or Arnedo. «There is no possibility of being in Madrid directly before eleven in the morning nor of arriving in Rioja Baja before a quarter to nine. This forces us to have to spend the night in Madrid the day before, or vice versa, which represents a significant financial outlay,” they state in the text of the motion. With these numbers, the plenary session of the Footwear City Corporation demanded political will to promote new train frequencies stopping in Calahorra that benefit the people of Arneda.

“A good transportation network creates opportunities and improves the quality of life of citizens,” they indicate. “The Government of Spain has to treat us equally with the rest of the communities and place us in the place where we deserve,” defended the popular spokesperson, Jesús Rubio.

Although the Ministry of Transport has announced improvements recently, the spokesperson for the socialist group, Raúl Domínguez, called for people not to settle and to demand more. “Nothing happens if these new links reach Logroño, we are close, but we have to be ambitious and ask for Calahorra,” he agreed.

Agreeing with the arguments, the regionalist councilor pointed out that these better connections “would help the La Maja industrial estate have more potential.”
